Kyle and I met online over 6 years ago on Plenty of Fish before online dating was a cool thing to do. I was new to the site and he managed to get me to reply to his message because of how thoughtful it was and because he used the line,
“Will you be my cup of tea?"
I don't know why, but it reeled me in. We met in person shortly after he messaged me and after date number one, I immediately deleted my online profile.
and the rest is history.
the proposal story
It was the morning of my 27th birthday and Kyle had planned a brunch for us bright and early. We were driving to the brunch spot — which I didn't know about — but we drove past every good restaurant so I quickly became hangry.
After passing all the restaurants on 4th Avenue, we started driving towards UBC. I joked (but not really) that he was taking me for brunch at the UBC village, but then we pulled up to the UBC Rose Garden parkade and all of my questions ended.
I knew something was up when he grabbed a black bag from the trunk. At first I was thinking, how elaborate it was of him to give me a birthday present out here. As we walked to the top of the steps of the garden, I saw a gold 27 and a bouquet of flowers waiting for me. In the black bag was a Tory Burch box but when I opened the box, it was a beautiful custom made scrapbook where he had gathered all the photos of our first moments together.
The photo on the first page was the first photo we took as girlfriend and boyfriend which was at the Rose Garden.
After that, I don't recall a thing except for me crying, him having to kneel down twice because I was so in shock, and saying YES to spending the rest of my life with my best friend!

Are you ready?
Almost 7 years ago, you came into my life and changed it for the better. You mended my broken heart — something that was so shattered that I didn’t know if it was even possible to put back together. But you did it. And I am so happy you did. You are the best person to spend the rest of my life with.
You will forever be my favourite cup of tea.

To my wife on our wedding day,
Holy shit! We’re getting married today! What a journey it has been. I’m so blessed to have you in my life.
From the moment that we met, I could tell you were someone special. I couldn’t ask for a better person to spend my entire my life with.
I love you more than life itself.
Your laugh, your smile, and your big heart, your intelligence, your personality, and your beauty — you are second to none. Sometimes I think I don’t deserve you but I will do everything in my power to make you feel the way you make me feel.
I love you to the moon and back. I fucking love you a lot. I can’t wait to marry you.
